FIRST TIME AT MESA FILIPINO MODERNE (SM CITY SAN PABLO)
Me, my mom and sister are usually at the mall during weekends since it is the only time of the week we have a chance to bond. And a few weeks back, during the SM Mid-Year Sale, we decided to pamper ourselves a little and tried a fancy restaurant that recently opened in SM City San Pablo, Mesa Filipino Moderne. Since many of my friends keep asking me about my experience eating here, I decided to write about it. Here goes.
Mesa Filipino Moderne serves Filipino cuisine with modern twists added to it. From chicken to pork, beef and seafood combinations, Mesa has almost 128 food items to choose from, including our native favorites. The restaurant uses high quality, fresh ingredients based on innovative and authentic regional recipes. They offer food that are fancy but in a reasonable price.
The said restaurant possess distinctive modern design and interiors to match the restaurant's theme and homey, Filipino setting. From fancy plates to wood interiors, the restaurant itself will really catch your attention — no wonder Mesa received numerous awards: Tatler awardee as one of the Best Filipino Restaurants (three consecutive years) and Manila's Best Kept secret awardee as the Best Filipino Restaurant.

During our first time at Mesa Filipino Moderne (SM City San Pablo), we ordered their Tinapa Rice, Kare-Kare, Bangus Belly, Binagoongang Baboy ni Kaka and Fried Leche Flan. I am a picky eater and I did not like their Kare-Kare just because it is short ribs (beef), and I'm not the biggest fan of beef anything. But my mom, on the other hand, really loved the dish. She said it was really tender and nice. What I enjoyed eating at Mesa though, was their Bangus Belly and Binagoongang Baboy ni Kaka. The meat in these dishes were also tender and taste nice, plus it was really pleasing to the eye and not to mention it was not oily whatsoever, which is quite perfect for me. The Tinapa Rice we ordered tasted quite good too — it didn't over power the other dishes we have. This rice was good for only two hungry people so we ordered two extra plain rice and mix them all up together because we were really that hungry. For dessert, we had their Fried Leche Flan. Seeing it for the first time is quite shocking because they look like cheese sticks. They tasted kinda same too! Well, at first... I think it's because they have the same texture and all that. But after some time, you'll definitely taste the leche flan. It was really good! Plus, it has this caramel side that is to die for — they were a perfect combination, salty and sweet.
Our over all dining experience was nice. The staff were really accommodating and the ambiance is just love, kinda homey and chill. The food also tasted good — its presentation and plating is just wow. Perfection.
