Blushing Sneakerhead – by Mariah Christhel: Food for Thought

HELLO FILIPINO PRIDE! I just love seeing old Filipino art. From antique houses to its furniture, to art pieces and Filipino architectures, these makes me appreciate Philippine history even more. "Nakakaproud". And one Sunday noon, we decided to go eat at a resto-museum where everything is art, at Tia Maria's Sining at Kultura! It was just walking distance from our house so we had no problem in locating the said place.

Tia Maria's Sining at Kultura is a taste of sophistication with a dash of art and culture. They serve delicious Filipino cuisine while showcasing different art.
Upon entering the premise, I was just at awe on how the beautiful the place was, from its interiors to certain artworks mounted on the wall... everything was just breath taking!

The resto-museum screamed Sining at Kultura! Located in the first room was the Komiks Museum. It showed great contributions on Philippine art history, from the first comics to its first comic artist.

In the other room, Tia Maria's Sining at Kultura have displays of great paintings and miniature art. They also have actual tea sets that can be used by the guests.

Ughh the place just takes you back in time to the good old days!!!

Salisbury steak (ala carte). 320 pesos

Kare-kare. 480 pesos

When it comes to food, Tia Maria's Sining at Kultura's food selection is minimal and at a higher price point (~300 pesos/head). But considering the place itself, it was reasonable since maintaining art is expensive. The place also seemed exclusive, which may be a good thing (or not, to a few) — it has a homey feel and it can only accommodate up to 40 guests, 50 guests max.

From the menu, we ordered the Salisbury Steak and Kare-kare. Their food tasted like Filipino classics, which has a nostalgic ring to it. Waiting time for the food was long, but you won't actually feel it since you can roam around the resto-museum while waiting for the food. "You said you won't actually feel the longevity of the waiting time, how did you know it was?" Because we took so many photos! That's how we knew it was long.

*Most of their food are good for 2-3 persons, but you can also order solo meals.

It’s June already! Can you believe we're halfway through the year? There are a few public holidays coming up this month so if you're travelling here down south, don't forget to drop by at Forest City Restaurant for a unique dining experience.

Located at Paseo Escudero Street here in the city, Forest City Restaurant brings a farm-to-table dining like no other. Fresh out of the owners organic farm (Forest Wood Garden), the restaurant serve flavorful surprising menus. From mushroom to meat based dishes and interesting deserts, you will surely get your money's worth!

The restaurant also sells a variety of food products made locally. These will be perfect "pasalubong" to your loved ones.

As for the restaurant itself, the place is not too big but it's not too small either. The place felt a lot like home though; it is cozy. You'll also get thrown down memory lane, playing childhood games like "sungka" while waiting for your food to be served. Waiting is also no issue since the owners are very friendly and you'll not notice the time passing by.

Farm-to-Table Restaurant (Forest City Restaurant Menu)

Because we wanted to fully experience our dining sense, we mostly ordered their best-sellers. We ordered their Mushroom Sisig, Pansit Kalabuko and Plantsado, Balol (native pork) and Centella Juice.

The mushroom sisig tastes a lot like your ordinary sisig which I find amazing because it is made of mushrooms. You can't tell the difference, really! The best part is, mushroom dishes mostly help from immunity to stress relief.

Pansit kalabuko is their most interesting dish up to par. It is made up of all natural and organic squash, mushroom, coconut meat, papaya and native pork. Not only does it look beautiful, it is damn good! It is so flavorful, and is guilt-free — you don't have to worry on enjoying seconds.

Balol was my favorite dish. It is a sun scorched and herb-smoked wild boar meat that tastes a lot like your ordinary pork barbecue. The baboy ramo used on is also organic so it is guaranteed that no chemicals were ever used all throughout.

A meal won't be complete without drinking any liquid. Forest City Restaurant serve different healthy drinks from turmeric tea to Centella juice. I ordered the latter. Centella has so many benefits from memory increase to blood sugar lowering, again guilt-free! I also love how it tasted, all-natural and sweet.

And the last thing we ordered is their "plantsado". Plantsado is a "kakanin" made up of toge root crop, which is a relative of cassava. This native delicacy is cooked using a hot old flat iron, just like in the older days. It is sweet and has a depth in flavor.
