From up to down: © MBC, SBS |
Korean Pop Culture a.k.a. Kpop is immensely loved by many Filipinos. Upon the strong development of "Hallyu" (as a subculture) in the Philippines, it definitely marked changes in our media today. Not only does KPop music exist in the PH, but also variety shows, films, K-beauty, K-fashion and K-dramas too! From stars like Nak Joo Hyuk and Lee Sung Kyun (Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo) to Jun Ji Hyun and Lee Min Ho (The Legend of the Blue Sea), it's no question that we would also crave Korean cuisine! Watching them eat Korean food just quickly whets the appetite not to mention eating K-food feels like you're eating with these stars.. right? It also brings some sort of nostalgia and excitement to our taste buds. "Mashisoyo!:)"
With the growing love for Korean cuisine, a lot of Korean restaurants have been popping in and out of the city. Ahhhh. We just can't get enough of this Korean food craze!!! Simply thinking about the beef BBQ grilling over the charcoal& serving of side dishes make us drool and thy tummy grumble. There's also a whole other world of Korean food waiting for us to be discovered!:)
Bon Chon Philippines, opened its first branch last November 2010. In a span of 3 years, they opened stores on 75 locations nationwide, making them one of the fastest growing Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) in the country. Well known for their Korean-style crispy fried chicken, Bon Chon has been warmly welcomed throughout the metro, finally reaching the City of Seven Lakes today!
As mentioned previously, Bon Chon is made famous by their fried chicken. They cook their chicken using the double frying technique: removing the fat first (thus creating the texture of the chicken skin) and then adding their secret sauce (for flavor). It usually takes them 5- 10 minutes, but it is most certainly worth the wait!:)

Here in Bon Chon, they serve other meals too! Their fried calamari is just perfect. It has the right calamari-breading ratio, paired with a simple mayo-like sauce.

Another meal that they have is "bibimbowl" which resembles the famous bibimbap. They added a twist to the original, by serving it with scrambled egg instead of an ordinary egg. But basically, how you eat it is still the same: mix and dig in!
