The best way of experiencing something new is travel to places you have never been before. It captures us with a sense of wanderlust and just let ourselves face other culture, discover local cuisines and meet new people! But in the world today, this is quite impractical and tad expensiveFortunately, if you are searching for authentic Japanese food and legit ramen experience, here is the next big thing! You no longer need to go to Hokkaido, Japan to have this kind of adventure.:) Recently, a certified Japanese restaurant just opened in San Pablo City which specializes on making ramen, hence its name "Ramen Sora".

Ramen Sora ("sora" mean sky) originated in Sapporo, Hokkaido in 2003. Chef Tomio, the man responsible for Ramen Sora, decided to put up this new restaurant after he had worked for famous Japanese restaurants in Sapporo (FUN FACT: Sapporo is considered as the culinary haven of Japan, where people go-to to indulge on Japanese cuisine such as ramen.). Their restaurant's motto is "No Ramen, No Life" because people in Japan can't live without ramen as Filipinos can't live without rice. Currently, Ramen Sora has several branches in Japan, one in Las Vegas and currently few in the Philippines, San Pablo City being one of them.

Since it recently opened in our city, we just have to try their food! We arrived at Ramen Sora around 5PM and upon arrival, the receptionist greeted us. The sad news is that we have to wait for almost 10 minutes to be seated. This maybe due to the fact that the place is a bit small and there are only few tables, not to mention it just opened! I guess everyone really wants to try their food so bad, us included.:)

Ramen Sora offers wide variety of Japanese food such as sushi, yakitori, sashimi, beverages such as sake and malt whisky, and of course ramen! duh. Because it is our first time to eat at this restaurant, our goal was to try their ramen. And we did!!! (The prices indicated below does not include the 5% service charge added into the bill upon payment. Ramen Sora accepts cash and major credit cards, but not debit cards.)
Chicken Thigh Shio
Chicken Thigh Shio. (125 pesos)
For appetizer, we ordered the chicken thigh shio. Grilled food items are normally served after 15 minutes, but I was happy that it arrived before the ramen, and just took them around 5 minutes to grill. I love how crispy the outside and how tender the chicken meat is. But if you're not into fatty foods, I do not recommend this for you since it has plenty of fat in it. With that said, it is still damn delicious! Ika nga "lahat ng bawal masarap".

For the main dish, we ordered their ramen ofc! Ramen Sora practices the traditional way of making ramen, choosing only the finest ingredients and boiling the soup base for nearly a day just to get the full flavor from all the ingredients. We ordered the Miso Ramen, composed of tamago (egg), menma (lactate- fermented bamboo shoots), pork chashu (braised pork), ramen noodles and miso soup. I love the tenderness of the pork chasu and the flavor of the miso soup. On the other hand, I was quite disappointed about the noodles, idk it just felt not that authentic compared to other ramen shops I have tried before (Maybe it's just me). But overall, I love their ramen! Just sipping that warm, flavorful soup and eating the tender pork chashu just makes you want to have seconds. Their ramen is served for 10- 15 minutes. You can choose from miso (house specialty), shio (salt based soup) and shoyu (soy based soup), and even add more toppings!:)
Coke

Lastly for the beverage, we just ordered soda. If you want to try Japanese drinks, they also offer sake and malt whisky in shots and per bottle.:)

To sum it all up, I love the experience we had at Ramen Sora. They have great food as well as cool interior designs that would make you feel like you're in Japan. The lighting is quite dim to highlight those wonderful Japanese lanterns they have. There is also a restroom inside the restaurant, unlike most restaurants in SM City San Pablo. Ohhhh great place and great food! I can't wait to try japanese lasagna next time (hoping that it would be available.:))
